I've seen budget programs and so have you, probably. Some of them are
written for Trump wannabees and some are written for those whose financial
situation consists of an allowance and a big Friday night at the movies.
BUDGET TRACKER is THE budget program for anyone with 80-columns, a
reasonable number of incomes and outgoes, and a desire to keep track of
finances without spending a couple of days poring over a manual.
This program is so straightforward that even though it has instructions
built-in, you probably won't even need to read them. You can save and load
each month's budget from the main menu. There's a sample file on the disk
called "sample". Load it and you'll see what a typical budget looks like.
It's set up like a spreadsheet, with three pages for the year -- four months
to a page. To get from Jan-Feb-Mar-Apr (page 1) to May-Jun-Jul-Aug (page 2)
just press 2. Sep-Oct-Nov-Dec is page 3.
Down the left side of the screen is where you'll have your categories,
like RENT, GAS, CAR, etc. You can modify these to suit your own situation.
Just select the line where you want a category to be and press C. You'll be
asked for the name of the category.
You move the cursor with the CRSR keys and can change any "cell" by
using the +, - and = keys. If the current cell is $0.00 then you press =
and can enter the value. If there's already a value there and you want to
add $20.00 to it, just press + (plus sign) and enter 20. If you want to
subtract from a cell, just press - (minus sign) and enter the amount to be
subtracted. See what I mean by straightforward?
After you've entered all of your month's figures, you press ^ (the UP
ARROW) and everything is calculated and your totals, by month and by
category are displayed. You can print out your "spreadsheet" anytime you
want. There's even a disk utility submenu in case you want to look at the
directory, rename a file, scratch a file, etc.
But all of this is in the program. The 80-column screen was made for
programs like this and programs like this are made for users like you.
Barbara Schulak's name is on it and that says a lot. Use it in good health
-- and wealth.
